The role of mentors is most crucial in the first 12 months of a startup as a company goes through maximum experiments during this period, and makes numerous changes in its business model.
In the course of our Indian WunderNova Startup Tour we met many different founders in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi.
Most of them had a tech element to their business but there was one company that stood out, namely Zariin – a jewelry business run by two sisters in Delhi.
Zariin is the collaboration of the two sisters Mamta and Vidhi Gupta. Both are fashion obsessed and self taught designers. Despite the fact that neither of them pursued a fashion degree, their entrepreneurial spirit and passion for jewelry ultimately drove them to pursue their dream.
Vidhi and Mamta are both determined to create jewelry that is distinctive and stylish, yet reflective of their creative talents and their cultural influences. Each Zariin piece is hand-made lovingly by artisans who are paid a fair wage.
Founded in 2010 Zariin is quickly emerging as a leading fashion brand among stylists, tastemakers, editors and retailers. Today, Zariin Jewelry is sold in over 100 boutiques, stores and specialty retailers such as Anthropologie and The New.
Since 2010 the company has been featured in many fashion magazines and some of their pieces have been worn by Indian as well as international celebrities.
When asked how their family reacted to their plans on starting a jewelry business they mentioned that their family has always been very entrepreneurial and thus very supportive of their plans.
And when asked about what advice they might have for other young founders it was to follow their dreams and stay focused.
We wish you all the best for your future journey.
